Pam Luer, Artist

I've had the good privilege and honor to work with a very talented artist and teacher named Pam Luer over the past 26 years. (I've also had the distinct privilege to be married to her as well.) Pam has always had a real love and affinity for art, nature and an active lifestyle. In the past couple of years, she's been able to combine all those passions (along with a real ability to connect with others) as a art workshop teacher. Below is a series of videos I've created for Pam to give students and prospective venues an idea of what it's really like to work with Pam--and why it's so rewarding! Fortunately, it hasn't been hard to get others to speak on her behalf. Below is a short sample of her many satisfied students. (Thank you to ALL who spent their time with Pam and then so generously shared the experience.)

Pam Luer, Artist Profile

I speak from experience. Pam Luer is a woman in motion--always creating, always reading, always moving forward. So I was delighted to get her to sit down with me for a couple of moments to talk about what motivates her, what inspires her to create and what she loves about her creative process. Lucky for me, I get to see that process up close and personal, so there's a lot of fun b-roll to work from. This video is presently front and center on Pam's website, pamluer.com.

Pam Luer's Nature Sketchbook Workshop California

Pam has a long history and a deep love for the state of California. Her early 20s were spent in wine country and one of her oldest and dearest friends still lives there. Thanks to the pull of the state--and her admiration of the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden, Pam mixes work with pleasure when she heads to the state to reconnect with friends and share her gift of teaching with the Garden's members.

Pam Luer's Nature Sketchbook Workshop Utah

Pam's latest adventure (June 2016) was a trip to Red Mountain Resort, an adventure spa near St. George, UT. Pam and her friend, Edy, went there years ago and Pam had always wanted to return. She felt her classes would be perfect for this active and beautiful vacation getaway, so she contacted them and they quickly agreed. The weather was unseasonably hot when we were there. Mid-80's was the norm. But every day we were there, it was over 100--topping out at 111. Still, that didn't dampen Pam's enthusiasm. The resort put up a tent, lugged out gallons of ice water and the classes went on! Students enjoyed the time to explore their art and the many tools Pam brought for them to sample. I have no doubt will make a return visit soon.

Pam's Class at Brown & Greene Floral in Minneapolis

Pam's worth has always been inspired by the beauty of nature. So it was a natural fit for her to bring her teaching skills to beautiful flower shop in south Minneapolis. Pam stresses that her classes are as much about seeing as they are about drawing. She encourages students to slow down and carefully observe their subject before diving into the details. As you can see by this video, it was a relaxing, enjoyable evening for all who attended. Pam says she always enjoys being surrounded by the beauty of Brown & Greene--and looks forward to teaching another class there again soon.

Pam Luer's Nature Sketchbook Workshop - Grand Marais, MN

Pam is a big fan of the great outdoors. And she's a life long lover (and student) of art. That's why she created the Nature Sketchbook Workshop series--to combine her greatest life passions with a desire to share what she knows with artists of all of skill levels. This video was created after a weekend trip to Grand Marais' famed Artist Colony. Her workshop sold out and those who got in--like Karen (who's featured in this video)-- were glad they got to spend the time with Pam...and along the beautiful Minnesota North Shore.

Richard L.

Richard is an experienced artist and entrepreneur who had a wonderful time in Pam's classes. In this video, he talks about how gentle and respectful Pam is to all students, no matter their experience level. He emphasizes the great value there is in artists working together and learning from each other. And he speaks eloquently and passionately about why classes like Pam's are so important to him. As he explains, they're a chance to slow down his busy life for at least a few hours and relish the beauty and serenity of spending time in nature.

Lisa V.

Lisa is a professional graphic designer, but admits she hasn't spent much time putting pen or brush to paper since taking some art classes in college. Her world is filled with raising kids, computer programs and, at best, "doodling" at work. This class not only exposed Lisa to a lot of new materials and Pam's growing library of art books, but gave Lisa a chance to take a break from the demands of work and family and just spend time in a beautiful place seeing the world in a whole new light. (She had so much fun last time, she's already signed up for Pam's next class!)

Laurie W.

Laurie is a yoga teacher and a talented artist herself who appreciates how down-to-earth, kind and open Pam is. "Whether you're a beginner or more experienced, Pam always has something to share and you can always learn something", says Laurie, adding "And she's happy."  Which is really nice, she laughs, "because I've had some crabby art teachers." Laurie encourages everyone to try out a class with Pam. "If art is something that you love to do, just jump in and don't be afraid."

The Art & Science of Nature

Pam is really enthusiastic about an upcoming opportunity to partner up with The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, WI, and The Belwin Land Conservancy in Afton, MN. Working with Belwin Naturalist Lynette Anderson, Pam will be teaching a sketchbook class enhanced with insights from an experienced naturalist. Lynette knows the oak savanna well. In preparing for the class with Lynette, Pam was fascinated by what she was learning from Lynette. "I'm looking forward to taking this class myself," Pam laughed.
