QUASIMODO
"Going Fast" |
"Bad Boyfriend" |
"Online/Toaster" |
"Proud/Winter" |
"Blurry Girl"This is one of a series of five commercials shot in two days in one private home in the Twin Cities. They all concentrate on different facets of Midcontinent Cable's service. We used a blurry screen and a funny actor to demonstrate the importance of HD service.
|
"Baby"This is another in that series. The baby in this video was the child of a crew member. They never got tired of being bathed! We expected some crankiness, but it never happened. Plus, we got to put in a fart joke at the end. It was a win/win for everyone.

"Closing Argument" |
"Think Big" |
"When Pets Go Berserk"I don't always like to admit it, but it's amazing what you can accomplish--SOMETIMES--when you have little money to work with. This TV spot, which ran during Timberwolves games, featuring Hi-8 footage of our cats. Another spot was video I took in Tahiti of a land crab picking up a cigarette butt. Guys who saw it said it would stop them in their tracks when they were watching the game.
|
"Shopping for Movies"This doesn't really belong in this section. It's a Rainbow Foods management conference meeting video, not a TV commercial. But it's a fun example of what I really enjoy doing--involving actual company employees in their in-house corporate videos. These guys were stars of a review show that rated movies based on their depiction of grocery stores in the films. This is an edit from a longer piece, which still makes me laugh today.

"Spell Checker" |
"Theme Song" |
Oh boy. Another "no budget" project. (Maybe people won't scroll down to the bottom of this page and never see what can be done for little money.) To demonstrate their commitment to selection and price, we actually DID shoot this spot using the store's actual security cameras...with talent being actual employees. It doesn't always work, but I still love this cheap ass spot.

Making things sound crappy is generally the antithesis of what I like to do, but we went to great lengths to make these commercials look and sound bad. In addition to the security cams, I used a horrible mic to record the VO and added crackles and pops to the music track. The singer was the boss's kid. He was a great sport and this series of spots remains among my favorite.
